*Official Thread* Anthem AVM 70 & 90 and MRX 540, 740 & 1140

Replied you.

With the latest firmware and updates, does anyone know if we still need to recycle the power on our AVM90/70 after uploading a new ARC file?

Is there a new firmware for MCU and DSP? What is the version?

No new firmware that I’m aware of in the last few months - I was just asking if we still need to power cycle our preamps when uploading a new ARC file with the most recent firmware/updates. I’ve read in old posts to do it - just not sure if it’s still necessary every time.
MCU HD.80/00.04

Yes, it is still a good practice to do that although it is not necessary imo.

So I’ve decided to start over with ARC. In Quickmeasure prior to running ARC, my speaker levels are 61db for rears and centers and my Mains and Subs are around 70db.
I try changing the levels of all speakers to equal 75db (72db for 2 subs) in the GUI but nothing changes in Quickmeasure. I quit Quickmeasure each time but nothing changes.
If I run ARC without match leveling my speakers ahead of time, ARC boosts them 9 or 10 db.
What am I missing?

Sounded to me like you are not using the same type of amp for your mains and (center and rears) pair. You want to consider getting the “same” type of amps to power your speakers to avoid this.

Yes, three different amps - but I can’t change that. So there’s no way to ‘even out’ the levels prior to running ARC?

Hello,

New here and new to Anthem. Hope this is the right place for this post, and it’s not a duplicate. I have searched here and elsewhere and can’t come up with a good answer. I’m hoping to get help with new MRX-540. So much to like about this avr, but my issue is this. I do most of my streaming via apple tv. When I run hdmi straight from apple tv to lg oled the apple tv checks and says the tv is dolby vision compatible and everything looks great. When I run the same hdmi cable from the anthem hdmi out to the lg and a similar brand new hdmi cable from the apple tv to hdmi input 1 on the anthem, the same test says it’s not dolby vision compatible or 4k HDR and bumps it down to 4k sdr. I’ve also tried different hdmi inputs on the mrx-540. I realize I could just run the apple tv to the lg, use earc back to the mrx-540, but that sort of defeats the purpose. Thanks for any input. Also, I did update the firmware as first step out of the box, it looks as though some were saying the firmware from late last years fixed some dolby compatibility issues. Thanks again.

How many HDMI output did you run from Anthem MRX 540? Did you happen to have another display which does not have DV - e.g. a projector connected to MRX 540 output by any chance?

I did originally plug the apple tv into output2 (my eyes aren’t what they used to be) and then switched it to output1, but have not attached any other display.

Correction. I meant to say I plugged output2 into the lg originally, then switched it to output1. Something tells me this is headed for a factory reset? The one thing I haven’t tried. I found connecting to wireless less than ideal, and will have to move the avr to use a wired ethernet connection.

In case I can save someone the ridiculous amount of time I spent on this it turns out to be the CEC settings on the Anthem combined with the CEC settings (also known as the abysmal “Simplink”) on the LG OLED. There are three on the Anthem and one on the LG. With all 4 turned off and seemingly multiple power cycles, it finally works. The LG relentlessly wants to turn itself back on and offers to control your device, so double check. Again, if you can get Dolby Vision when directly plugged into the tv, but the eARC will not return sound to the Anthem, or you plug the streaming device into the Anthem and out to the tv resulting in perfect audio but Dolby Vision (gets reduced to 4kHDR or 4kSDR), I find turning off all CEC controls and rebooting everything brings the bliss of Dolby Vision and excellent audio. But of course, now I can’t power everything off with just one remote. Now, on to room correction, so I’ll probably be back looking for you @desray.

Thanks for sharing this piece of vital info. It will certainly save alot of fiddling time. And yes, implementation of CEC on Anthem can be quite a hit or miss kind of affair. But I would NEVER have guessed that CEC also has a “role” in HDR/DV flag being sent.

Hello,
I am new here, just bought the AVM90 along with MCA525 Gen2.
Initial setup done and first (automatic mode) ARC setup sounds very promising)))
One question: I did not find an answer by searching (almost :-)) the whole internet:
I have a Synology NAS where I store MP3 and FLAC files (also high res).
How can I play those MP3 and high res flacs via DLNA on the anthem avm90? As far as I see, Roon is not ready yet… what other app is directly handling this using the direkt DLNA Connection between nas and AVM90? To my knowledge Airplay cant play above 44khz. The only Google Gadget I have is the NVidia Shield Pro.
I am dreaming about something like the BluOS Controller for BluSound Node 2i which I recently had for testing. But I don’t want to have „another“ Chrome-friendly player installed…except my NVIDIA Shield Pro.
Earlier I owned the Denon AVC-A1H… Their integrated HEOS was greatly working with DLNA from my NAS but the AVC-A1H did not produce good sound in my living room even using Dirac wasnt so good… Now I have a good sound machine with the AVM90 but nothing comparable like HEOS

Hi Ronildoq,

I am carefully reading your statements here because I just purchased a AVM90 with my mind swapping between the Lyngdorf MP40/60 and the AVM90. I like TV, DVD and also Music and for my wife it is important that we hear clear voices in our beton- and glas-surrounded- and stone-floor-built living room)

Question: have you done - or knowledge of - a comparison between MP-40/60 and the AVM90?
If yes, which of both would you recommend for my glass-and-stone living room with just 5.1 Setup? I dont wanna go for more speakers…Would it be worth the bigger money to be spent on the MP-40 or do you say the AVM90 gets close enough or even better to the Lyngdorfs - which I understood from your comparison to your own MP-50…
Thanks for your advice

You can get a good streamer for ll your musical needs. I am currently using EverSolo DMP-A6 and it can connect to my music collection on my Synology NAS with ease.

thank you for the advice)
I will buy a player that can play high res music and videos…

A comparison between the flagships - Anthem AVM90 and Marantz AV10

Recall we talked about my preferences between the DSU vs anthem logic music recently.

Looks like Anthem didn’t restore the DSU center channel spread, that Gene lobbied D&M so hard to do.
It makes DSU not really usable for stereo upmix because the center channel dominates the presentation.

Thankfully the Anthem Logic music upmixer sounds really really good. Or just pure stereo is amazing too haha.
