*Official Thread* Anthem AVM 70 & 90 and MRX 540, 740 & 1140

  1. Turn on the Receiver. Go to WebUI and select an Input in the WebUI that has an Analog output.
  2. Fire up the ARC s/w and perform the ARC calibration as per normal.

Sorry for my ignorance but I didn’t exactly understand what you explained to me.

@desray you deserve a medal for the knowledge and support you provide the community. Bravo.

Our family just moved into a new house that came with a junk home theatre, I’m DIY’ing it from scratch and put in a 7.4.1 system powered by a MRX 1140 with a pre-amp. As I’m calibrating the ARC settings, I’d love to get better at reading the graphs and knowing what to correct for. You able to connect and offer guidance on how you interpret the graphs and make changes? What you look for, etc?

Hello Sir, may I check whether MRX 540 able to drive DALI Epicon 2 (4 ohm) speakers ?

Any recommend amplifier to drive or I can stick with MRX 540 while funding to get better one than MRX 540. Kindly advise. Thank you!

On paper, no issue driving 4 ohm but in reality, I would not recommend it. The ability to drive the speakers is one factor, other factors to consider include the sensitivity of the DALI Epicon 2 and how “loud” do you listen at and more importantly how “big” is your listening area? Also, what’s your current speaker setup? 5.1 or 5.1.2? The more you add, the more power it will be drawn. I would suggest stepping up to the mid-tier model - MRX 740 with 140 wpc over the MRX 540 which is 100 wpc.

Hi Sir, I’m using 5.1 setup right now. But for music I only activate main speaker in speaker setting and the rest are disable include subwoofer for music listening.Room is not big , less than 500 sqft. I don’t like to listen loud but not too low as well. Thanks.

In that case, you should be fine.

Thank you sir, I’ll stick with MRX540 then.

Get a 3-channel power amp to drive center, front left & front right speakers. The surrounds & atmos can leave 540 to handle. You can drive it hard if you want as this will not strain 540.

This is what I’m doing with my MRX540.

Duly Noted and thank you! Could you recommend any 3-channel amplifier not more than 5 digits  ?

I don’t have any recommendation. It need not be expensive as long it has 100w and above should be suffice. Of cos better amp will beget better result.

For me I got from used market a defunct China made brand, Korsun @ 250w stereo power amp for my front speakers & a Korsun @150w (also a stereo) for my center.

Anthem has a single chassis 3-channel power amp - MCA 325 Gen2 @ 225w/c. I’m not sure the price in Singapore but its retail at US$2,700 according to google search.

By the way someone can explain me about this ‘225 watts RMS x 2, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 4 Ω, both channels driven’ ?

Does it mean 225 watts / channel or both channel at 225 watts in total ? Thank you!

It means each speaker will receive 225watts of power.

I will just add to what Goldberg has mentioned…besides the XX/wpc RMS at 2-ch driven numbers, it pays to look at the accompanying THD figure too - e.g. (less than 0.01% is considered good). Based on the amp specs, I assume that is the Anthem MCA power amp series that Goldberg has mentioned in his post, which imo is a true beast!!! If you have the $$$ to spare, this is the one to go with your Anthem MRX 540.

If the MCA power amp is out of your budget, maybe look at tonewinner. I believe Alpha Audio is the local distributor?

Thank you for your replied sir. By the way I was thinking to get MCA 225, then bi amping (Horizontal) MRX540 (High Pass) & MCA 225 (Low Pass) if the gain level is no implication. Or bi amping (Vertical), getting two sets of Parasound Halo A23+ (with loop out) for less cable connection implication. If any of you experience with bi amping. Kindly advise . Things are getting more complicated  .

If you believe in better separation of highs and mids out of the speakers, you can try for yourself but imho the benefits of bi-amping by running more interconnects and cables just ain’t worth the time, money and effort. Again this is my opinion as I’m no audiophile. I’m more of multi-channel proponent.

“KISS” is the better approach…sometimes less is more.

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone had experience with both Anthem Avr’s and Arcam avr’s. And how they compare with sound quality etc.

My memory might failed me here…I recalled member, Foodie has a Arcam or someone else can provide their experience.

Desray,
I PM’d you to send an ARC file for a gander if that’s okay.
