Demo and catch up at Roni’s

Yes, for his screen size, laser is the way to go to bring out the much needed luminance to make 4K HDR truly shine. My screen size (only 106" diag) is limited by the space I have and it is harder for me to bigger. Maybe next time when I moved house, I will definitely consider at least a 135" - 150" screen size. I will still go for 2.35:1 AR screen though.

What happens when you get the IMaX Zack Snyder type of aspect ratio on these type of screens ?

Do we then adjust the settings on the Pj? I think the latest Batman V superman extended cut is also in this 4:3 format

Back then when I first started the Projector path, I had set aside $15k budget. I was thinking, pj $10k, screen and misc $5k. That should do the trick.

Later I got advise by some friends, don’t need to spend so much on PJ… the useful life wears off fast, and we have the next upgraded version hdmi 2.0 so on…

So I took the advice, and saved some $$

But I didn’t follow the advice of going 2:35 : 1, I still preferred 16:9. Looked nicer to my eyes.

Then I allocated the funds for room acoustics instead, no turning back after that…

Till today, still happy with the video quality , thanks to vertex2…

U can see how good the aquaman pic on the BenQ 5700

Me is because my eyesight and hearing cannot catch up with the tech so simple entry level will do😅.

I started with 3gun sony crt when i was in early 20s, lcd then dlp till today. Eyesight telling me can already, although brain telling me desray pj is better, lol.

Economists talk about Marginal Utility. In our PJ terms, its basically how much additional pleasure we get versus the pain of losing your $$$ to your PJ - the marginal cost. Usually marginal utility is diminishing. For example the first Pfizer shot gives you 70% immunity. The second gives you 95%. If they had a 3rd, probably it would increase your antibodies 1 or 2%. Even more might result in side effects. In PJ terms as you spend more, your additional pleasure becomes less and less. At the point where it causes too much pain to your wealth, you stop.

The marginal utility of a DILA or SXRD over a DLP is not insubstantial, especially if you value blacks. However, if you don’t have bat cave type totally dark room, then the marginal utility is less and it may not be worth the cost. If Roni jumps up and down and says everyone has to have DILA after he tests it, I will certainly have to investigate…

When the BenQ W2700 and W5700 were introduced at $2,200 and $3,500, the marginal utility of the W5700 was not worth the additional 60% to me. Compared even to the W5700, I lost the deeper blacks of my previous Full HD Sony SXRD projector, but then the BenQ HDR 4K image was so much more beautiful. After a few weeks, I forgot about the blacks

Lol, that’s what I thought as well. In the end I didn’t see the benefits of jumping to the N7. There is so much wow on the internet, but I’m perfectly happy with the DLP.

You have said it all very nicely indeed on the aspect of diminishing returns.

I have actually tested the BenQ, they don’t perform as well below 10% grayscale. But there isn’t much content down those levels in most of the movies. What they lose out in black levels, they make up for in the colour department. Not too bad

But I still wanted to give it a shot, and compare it against the JVC. Just for the experience and having first look at the controls available on this Pj .

Desray’s Sony with the lumagen is on another planet. The lumagen was a real game changer, the image looks fantastic as well.

I haven’t reached that level yet, long way to go for me.

As always, I love the journey behind. I’m getting kind of bored nowadays nothing much to fiddle and play around. So this is a good opportunity to dive into the JVCs . Who knows we might see a laser JVC soon at reasonable prices this year ?

Hi sammy, you are right. When i bought the optoma 4k pj and comparing to my marantz pj side by side, i still reluctant to give up the blacks and colors from marantz. But since i told myself to move forward, i just keep watching the optoma till i forgotten how good the marantz was.

But hey, optoma is sharper due to 4k and brighter.

Really ? I thought the older we get, the more fussy we get with video quality…

So it’s the reverse…

Lol

Hi bro roni, i already not that fussy anymore. Must consider pocket.

Another reason is now my eyesight is 1080p even watching 4k pj 4k movies . Put on glasses then become 4k . But very uncomfortable putting on glasses to watch movies so chin chai liao.

lol… bro you are very funny guy ! i think i should up grade Lasik, then can get auto 8K…

Bro , my eyesight is really getting poorer and poorer due to aging but I still resist on putting on glasses . The passion on HT still there but not that much compare to last time . Time is not enough due to family commitment and other hobbies . Sometimes I hardly watch a movie in a month .

I see. Ya good to know u r spending good quality time with family. That will be priceless. I try as much to do that too. Especially my kids are young, the time spent and bonding strengthens the relationship

Equipment, they come and go. But time spent, the kids remember for life.

I may be happy & thrilled with a high end Processor today, but that dies down after some time. Once we own it. It becomes the norm. But family time, they remember for life, they remember the holidays, they remember the moments. That is always why I almost always watch animation stuff.

So ya, definitely worth it !

Without the Lumagen, it will be in 4:3 aspect (1.33:1) and the image becomes very “squarish” for a scope screen. Without Lumagen, the image will automatically stretch to 16:9 (1.78:1) which gives me a more bigger viewing area with some cut-offs from the top and bottom. This can’t be helped.

We may have one contender now for surrounds that could be demo worthy.

Has anyone watched Aeronauts ? New movie

Apparently from some of the AVS guys this movie has got extremely good surround effects.

I haven’t watched it, so not really sure but if you found something nice, do share the time stamp. I’ll cut it out for demo and share here…

Can share how to cut these demo clips? Any tutorials would be good. Much appreciated.

I watched this last year I think. On Prime I believe.

Nice movie.

No problem, I’ll share tonight, including the software and step by step here…

We can retain the full bandwidth and HDR /dolby vision metadata using this tool

All u need to know is the time stamp from and timestamp to…
