Calman built in for the new TCL TVs

Pleasanton, CA USA – Portrait Displays, global leader in color calibration solutions and advanced display control has teamed up with TCL Electronics, one of the largest mass-market consumer electronics companies, to bring Calman Ready to the brand-new European model TCL C72+ and C82 TVs.

Time after time, TCL has reinforced its leading position in the global consumer electronics industry by introducing state-of-the-arttechnologies to market. Their products are always designed to deliver a comprehensive range of entertainment and exceptional audio-visual performance. The latest TCL C72+ and C82 TVs are held to this same standard, producing genuine, cinematic picture quality with Quantum Dot and MiniLED technology for greater overall depth, detail, and dimension.

TCL C72+ and C82 TVs have been developed to be Calman Ready. The displays are integrated with the power to communicate directly with Portrait Displays’ renowned Calman software and the capabilities to perform quick, precise, and automated calibrations. Calman users will have access to customized workflows and the revolutionary Aurora Color Engine to ensure that their TCL display produces optimized image quality for long-term use.

The TCL C72+ and C82 TVs will also give consumers the option to utilize Calman’s AutoCal feature, in which the calibration workflow process is pre-programmed. AutoCal is not only much faster but delivers consistent and reliable results.

“Thanks to Portrait Displays’ leading auto-calibration software and 17x17x17 3D LUT, our 2021 premium LCD TV sets can fully utilize the calibration capabilities for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, and SDR formats. Now, up to 4934 calibration points can be used to help professional calibrators and consumers quickly enjoy on-screen images with little color error,” said Marek Maciejewski, Product Development Director, Europe, TCL.

“By integrating Calman Ready with the new QLED TV C72+ Series and MiniLED TV C82 Series, calibration is made into an easy, consistent, and automated experience for customers around the globe,” said Eric Brumm, President & CEO, Portrait Displays. “We’re looking forward to putting Calman in living rooms and studios alongside TCL’s remarkable products.”

Calman Ready TCL C72+ and C82 TVs will be supported in an upcoming Calman 2021 software update.

Interesting….

Tomorrow will be the first time I attempt a video calibration on the TCL TV…

Don’t really have much experience with this TV, but it’s certainly not going to be as easy as calibrating the projector with the autocal function

Fingers crossed and hopefully will be able to get a decent result

Anyone calibrated their tcl tv ? How is your experience with this TV ?

all I know it is a popular brand in US and UK.

one would be scratching his head… why would a $2.7k 85inch TV from TCL would be “oversold” as claimed in HWZ discussion thread recently?
well… the answer is probably on the upgrades not just on system hardware, but also the product range ranking.
a jump from “entry level” P to “intermediate level” … … …C?

here’s the selected details in focus from the 2 range as listed in TCL SG page(not SmartTech the appointed agent)

without looking into the details, the most easy difference that one will see is the QLED in the headline of the model description… that cost only a hundred more than entry level P make, 2022 release.

so… is that a success for TCL enough to push up the hype? or striking the sensibility of local consumers to be more “technical sensed”?

Good luck bro… Think this is unventured ground locally. U using calman or chromapure?

what pattern gen/TPG will u b using? Shld get the pgen cos i think calman dont support with TPG for TCL. And Chromapure dont support hdr calibration and no TPG except for the disc.

I calibrated my Samsung TV using Calman Home for LG and the manual workflow with PGen. Was only able to do 2pt greyscale and Samsung’s CMS had severe limitations, but after a day of work, the picture actually looks reasonably accurate despite the limitations.

Yea that’s the usual workaround for models not supported by autocal.

But need a reliable external TPG to do so. And also, choose the correct target display/meter type to have the correct EDR as a baseline.

Not so straight forward as it doesn’t have the autocal with calman, so we did the chromapure version vide disc… 2 point white balance followed by grayscale and cms colour adjustment, not bad decent improvements but of course cannot beat the LUT calibration approach…

For hdr calibration, only 2 point white balance, was told not to touch cms as that is not accurate

Overall looked ok post calibration over the default out of box settings … not too bad

Ya sometimes just a simple 2 point white balance is all that’s needed if have limited controls

Get the pgen bro. It will give u a bit perfect color accurate external pattern generator. And can use w calman.

If using CP, if u wana save time, u can try using the inbuilt CP pattern generator on the laptop programme, over hdmi… make sure the hdmi range is correctly setup for calibration on both source and display. But pray that the video card dont alter the colors… Not recommended cos hdmi video card might alter the colors. But if u dont have an external pattern generator, this is 1 way. Then u use ref monitor and scenes + black and white level test patterns to see if got discrepancy/tint.

Highly recommend the former (pgen).

Yea will definitely check this out…

When I was using the Lg autocal with Internal patterns, the calibration was pretty fast coming in at 0.25 seconds read upload . A 17 fixed grid took 5hrs plus to complete. Was this pgen a lot faster ? I recall both u and Sammy mention the calibration is also a lot faster…

Yea faster

lookin’ to get the new C745/845 series TVs?
it’ll only be available after the launch in COMEX’23 next week… according to TCL’s FB post.

the recently announced 5000nits “X”955 is on demo/displayed @ Comex@Suntec. it’s really bright. however when u stand a little close to the 85” display, you’ll noticed that local dimming is activated as there are flickering when image moves along.
it sounds as if there isn’t any ready stocks for delivery, as they’re taking preorders for later shipping dates when shipment arrives… when i overheard someone making enquiries on price.

How much is the 85”

X955? no idea…

aesthetically the domestic market 85X11G looks the same to 85X955… so as the 5000nits specs.

with exception of the OS, further investigation required to identify if the SoC is the same as well…

well… it seems someone over @ HWZ had stepped out to make enquiry… the 85X955 is quoted to be $5K, $1k cheaper than the SHARP first miniled 75inch model now goes on $6k.

It will be interesting to see how this 5000 nit TV handles blooming and blacks.

So far, I’ve not seen any non OLED TV that has above 1000 nit peak brightness that can handle blooming very well. The brighter the panel gets, the worse the blooming problem is usually.
