HT session with Wind

:+1:

Re-watched GOTG Vol.3 on a full lossless Dolby Atmos track and I found that the sound mix contains more dynamics and surprisingly better Atmos effects as well. But still, you will need to increase the MV by at least 8dB or more to truly get the best sound.

I increased 10dB…just watched this afternoon, not a lot of ultra low bass in this movie, even with BEQ on.

if non aircon room, cleaning the dust in the rack will be quite difficult rite?

how is the SDA effect of the L800 so far?

Try not to think lol. But yeah, perhaps once a year try to “clean” as much as I can

Sound is always subjective. I welcome you to have a listen. I like it as the detail in separation is just special. Like hearing a pair of headphone in room. It can bring out the best and the worst in a source recording.

Can listen to them without subwoofer since the bass is just room filling. But as always, listening stereo with subs is always a plus.

Can also experience Atmos music at my place

Watched GOTG 3 for the first time on Disney+. I loved the colors. Really made use of the extra BT2020 colorspace. Sound wasn’t super immersive, especially the first half of the movie, but there was lots of rumbling in the second half that got the bass shakers going. And during the second half the Atmos ceiling speakers had good output during the battle scenes especially explosions. Some nice panning effects too as stuff flew around. So, all in I enjoyed the sound track. I didn’t increase the MV from my normal loud. Dialog was clear

Yeah, story line so so. Sou d and panning was good in my opinion. Bass is not something to die for but it’s up to satisfactory level. The chaotic battle scene can be the only scene that I enjoyed most lol

With waveforming round the corner for Trinnov users…

For my case, only 3 options

  1. Revamp living room
  2. Don’t use
  3. Shift to bigger home

Since most subs are placed on floors, min requirement already failed lol

Jia you bro! Can one! If don’t mind can share floor plan look look think think how to possibly incorporate this beamforming tech.

:muscle:t4:

Let me dig my floorplan and share. Thank for sharing ya brain lol

Thanks bro @Wind for your hospitality yesterday to host a listening session - it is an eye opener for sure. I really enjoyed the session - surprised that it lasted almost 2.5hrs, could have gone longer

The bass response from subsonic to midbass is impressive - very clean and hard hitting. Possibly the best room I’ve heard to date when it comes to bass output. Though it is a little too heavy in some demo scene from my personal preference. But this is a matter of taste rather than quality issue. What surprises me is how some very familiar demo scene contains so much more bass punch than I have ever experience both audible and tactile.

The use of mixed speaker brand and model doesn’t really affect the integration - not that I have the kind of hearing sensitivity to detect it. This and the point on bass management is probably the magic of the Trinovv processor.

The two areas of improvements from my perspective of course is the front soundstage - 1st, nothing beats the behind the screen setup to really nail the focus and immersiveness…
Imagine the Krix MX30/40 wall of sound behind a floor to ceiling 180" screen
2nd, the side and back speakers might benefit from a higher vantage point. At ear level it felt like the spkrs are almost nx to the ears vs a sense of distance, thus a bigger 3D aural bubble.

These are small nick pick - the journey to perfections never ends.

Visually, the LG looks great for it’s price point - truly value for money.
The blacks is much more acceptable than my own setup. For the tremendous sound performance, you need at least a 150" screen to match… :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Your welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.

Some says not enough, some says too much lol… Depending on preference 100% agree. For sure I know bro @kennyluck2000 will say “still can push more” in my system haha. You should drop by his place to experience AED.

I agree with this. As I’ve visited Ronlidoq, wechnivag, rock123, kaydee place, the full length fix screen really proves that in order to fully enjoy the immersive experience , sound needs to be coming from the screen. That leads me to do a brief measurement of my current setup and indeed, MX30 modular is of no issue to implement should I go for it lol. 23k for 5 piece set will definitely makes a difference in HT perspective and experience… thanks for the “poison” haha

Hmmm as for this… I’ve followed speaker placement recommendations by Trinnov, or any other Dolby recommendation as much as possible… Since only 1 calibration point measured, the concentration of the sound will wrap around MLP for sure. More importantly is when the sound wraps around you, sound gaps should not be experience. Perhaps another calibration into different profile using more than 1 calibration point after the next firmware update will have difference … and yes, too bad improvement never ends… Let’s see when I will have the “feeling” to do another calibration… Sometimes thinking to recalibrate is just sianz…haha

Thank you for your kind words and time for dropping by bro Ricky. I am very happy that we finally met and can discuss about HT. Looking forward for your invite once you done with your calibration!

When visiting members i will let the owner do their own demo cause they already setup and tweak the system to their own preferences. They know which demo is best for their systems and that is the system they enjoy most. Our preference can change along the way when we visit different members setup.
Each different members we may experience new concepts and ideas like example what Jason, Bryan, Ricky and Gavin do to their system we all can pick up one or two ideas from them or share our experience with them too. :+1:
My diy sub journey start when i visited Wind place. He was the one that how i started custom diy sub…

Yes. I uses ported subs for the longest time… then only changed recently. Who knows will go back to ported some day.

While I agree and have the same POV, however I would expand that it would be good to demo materials that we ourselves are familiar with. Different soundtracks are voiced and recorded in different intensity and coloration, so being able to demo something we ourselves are familiar with will give a better insights into the differences of what the member setup is able to achieve.

Take 13Hours, one of my 1st go-to demo material, I heard and feel a very different rendition to what I am used to. It also tells me I am missing some of the sonic material availble in the content because my system is incapable of reproducing.

I’ve done some DIY in the past, a pair of floorstander, center ch and a pair of bookshelves… not yet a sub… I would be tempted to do one, if only I can economically get my hands on a good pair of 18"… thus far, it is very very difficult to find commercially availble 18" with shallow depth (max 30cm) to put behind the front prj screen… thus far only Ascendo has it… the rest that I’ve seen are just too deep.

From the look of the Ascendo subwoofer, it looks like Stereo Integrity subwoofer driver frame…

any low profile drivers 18" like acendo or krix kind for DIY?

Using UM18, the minimum depth we can do is 34cm. The clearance between the magnet and the back panel is probably only 3cm.
