Firmware upgrade completed, there appears to be update on the EQ algorithm

Status post update, versions as follows

there is a one year old MP50 on sale for 8k…

Ya I saw… the newer models all cost a bomb, prices have gone up! Shipping is also a killer now…

If you had gotten yours, it’s a sigh of relief…everything gone up…

ya, AV gears price all go up, MP50 is still a good choice

There is one new kid on the block! Coming in at a Low budget pricing

Enter the tonewinner 16 channel

How good not sure man

this one I heard also, china brand right?

Ya China brand, China very aggressive . There is also the 300w 7 channel amplifier from tone winner. Also coming in at budget prices. But personally haven’t had the chance to hear it.

Seem to have taken the Malaysia market by storm

Very attractive pricing. Heard that they are the manufacturer for Emotiva.

Oh, related to emotiva… hmmm

Then it’s very important to check out the functionality and firmware

China has the biggest economy, consumer patriotism, technology talents and R&D investment culture to support a product from infancy to maturity and to world class. Huawei, Xiaomi, Tencent and Oppo, just to name a few.
Will not surprise that a China AVR will reach the status like Oppo 205 did for player in a few years time.

What a pity Oppo Is no longer in business

Many feel the same

Elsewhere in the world, we can see the Oppo 205 is sorely missed !

The new processor from lyngdorf is still not the full 48gbps version , but we also know LG’s oled CX models are also not the full 48gbps, but instead 40Gbps

But here is some advice from Lyngdorf on the use of HDMI 2.1 cables , including optical versions

Quote from ASR,

It will not be until 2022-2023 that we see a full 48gbps hdmi 2.1, or probably longer… that’s a hell lot of bandwidth even at 40gbps

There is some improvement with the new firmware from lyngdorf, improvements in EQ algorithm

To v4.2

The new version

One now has the option to eq the subwoofers before room correction.

What this means is that one can now correct for a flatter response at MLP, with the options to time align the subwoofers, before going ahead with room correction where the eq software focuses on correcting the “room” and power response of the speakers .

This new option will work beautifully now for those looking for the ultimate best quality at that single sweet spot, whilst allowing Room perfect to fix room modes or problems in the room

Enjoy !

Does the Lyngdorf performs base management on the front speakers as well?
Or all low freq duties pushed to the sub? ie the front/ctr does not output below 80Hz ala THX

Hi Ricky ,
You into lyngdorf as well ?

This processor is one of the best when it comes to bass management. It is not only versatile but allows for something called “physchoacoustic bass steering “ that cannot be found with other processors. It involves the use of 4 subwoofers placed at each corners front back in a rectangular room. I’ve never experienced physchoacoustic bass steering in any showroom or place before until I came across this processor. It is very unique in that aspect and you must use min 4 subwoofers at each corner or 4 stacked subwoofers at each corner

It’s not really about the SPLs but rather the quality of how bass steers in the listening environment. From micro details to explosions to closing of doors, warping into space, clock ticking everything is detailed and even on atmos scenes bass tracks nicely sweeping left right up down. Very articulated type of bass. Doesn’t really pound until you get fatigue type of bass or ear drums ringing type of bass. This processor is on another league , the price is hard to swallow, but I have no regrets. I would still buy this again today given the multiple options in the market for a processor

In the processor itself, users can configure to have the speakers set to XXL , ie large to handle full range. It can also be set to handle double bass, as in same bass signal sent to both subwoofers and speakers at the same time. During room perfect EQ, the processor will establish a roll off point for the speakers and set the main speakers or any other speakers to handle bass. It can also cut off bass being sent to any speakers.

What’s new now is, it can also send the LFE signal to the mains… :grimacing::grimacing:

Though I wouldn’t want to do that, as most main speakers don’t do as well with frequency below 100hz compared to a dedicated subwoofer. There is also a 10db boost on LFE channel. So gotta be careful there with this option

So all 4 options available on the lyngdorf

  1. Speakers full range
  2. Speakers sending bass to subs (xo option)
  3. Speakers and subs both handle bass (double bass option)
  4. Speakers handling LFE… :grimacing:

If you are using speakers like JTR, that uses 15” woofers, why not speakers handling LFE ? That works if the speakers are capable …

but for me, I set everything to 100hz, this is the best approach compared to Rojak some 80hz, some 120hz , some 60hz some 100hz… drawing a clear line who handles bass is very important in a HT set up especially when you have so many speakers in play , the acoustics and reflections are in a mess, the more speakers you add into the chain, the more issues u need to deal with. That is why you will often hear the phrase “ less is more” . So unless you can control it, I would say less is more… but if it is well controlled, by all means go ahead, more is good !!

I’m using 7.1.8, so I have 7 bed channels, 6 on ceiling, and 2 front heights tucked behind AT screen . They are controlled with acoustics that are effective so no issues running 7.1.8

I’ve experimented with many combinations in the past, every possible combination in the past 3 years, measuring , rinse and repeat , in the end I found what works best in the room. Unless you do it, a lot of it is just “ Yi Lang gong”…. “They say” kinda of situation…

Btw, welcome to AV forum , haven’t seen u on xtremeplace, which Nick ?

I’ve always used this same nick - mostly a silent member lurking in the background for past 8yrs or more. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’m not (yet) a Lyngdorf owner, just evaluating what’s out there. My current Yammy is seasoned and potentially up for upgrade - to upgrade means the replacement need to address existing shortcomings;

Right now the one thing that remains unresolved is the bass management during both stereo music and movies surround.

I have some room treatments like bass trap and adsorbers at 1st point reflection… but the room nodes still an issue.

Speaking of lyngdorf…

This Thomas stereo guy just experienced room perfect EQ

Zoom in to timestamp 12mins… where he talks about bass, he said his biggest improvement with the lyngdorf is the bass… his video was posted last month, I found out 2 years ago…. Lol

And he is right, bass management, for me, lyngdorf still champion….
