do i need to uncheck the 24hz in the xbox settings?
Nope, u don’t have to do that
As long as you allow for HDR, it will kick in to the correct FPS
This is when playing back Gemini Man in 60fps
This is dark knight in 24fps
Fix the refresh rate to 60hz under display settings
I guess the series x has got more options…
As u can see in my picture’s above, my xbox one x doesn’t have that option to click the 60hz check box.
I see…
Not familiar with one X, but I thought it should support 60fps
As u can see, it can’t even show 4k resolution…it’s showing up as 2560x1440@60 maxed out…damn…
Time to upgrade to the series x, very good picture quality
These pics were taken from that same YouTube video in 60fps at night, under dark conditions in the living room using the BenQ 5700 pj
I will do a check later tonight…I’m using Xbox One X. It could be the limitation of the Youtube app on the Xbox One X or the clip native resolution is NOT in 4K resolution (3840 x 2160).
thanks man… really sucks not having the same settings as the “series x” (Checkbox to enable 60hz)… what a bummer…
I did a check on the settings of the Xbox One X and my Roku Ultra 2020. In terms of the Youtube app, both versions are the same - i.e. 2021XXXX and utilize the same Client ID as well. So there is NO difference in terms of the Xbox One X Youtube app vs the Youtube app on my Roku Ultra 2020. Of course, both YouTube apps played 4K HDR w/o any issue.
Now that we know HDR is NOT a problem here since the Youtube apps on both platforms played w/o issue/. The ONLY difference I am able to spot is the way the Youtube app on Xbox One X handles the 4K resolution bit. In Xbox One X, the Viewport/Frames has defaulted at 1080p which then double up the frames by mulitple of “2” (x2) - i.e. 1920 x 1080 x2 = 3840 x 2160 whereas Roku Ultra (and possibly every other built-in Youtube app in a LG OLED TV), the Viewport/Frames is iat its native resolution of 3840 x 2160.
For playback of 2160p/24 clip
For XBox One X, when a 4K clip native resolution is in 4K at 24fps, the resolution will be at 3840 x 2160/24fps whereas for Roku Ultra 2020, you will still get 3840 x 2160/24fps as well…the only difference is Xbox One X initial resolution is at 2160p whereas for Roku Ultra 2020, the initial resolution is at 1080p and it performed a “double framerate” - akin to some form of upscaling in order to achieve 2160p (4K) resolution. Question is, do I see a difference? The answer is no.
For playback of 2160p/60 clip
Here’s the kicker, for XBox One X, the output resolution is at 2560 x 1440p. The initial resolution of 3840 x 2160p is reduced by 1.5x - 3840 / 2560 = 1.5 in order to provide a smoother framerate at 60fps. For Roku Ultra 2020, the initial resolution of 1920 x 1080p and the doubling of the framerate to 3840 x 2160p remains, even for 60fps. Once again, do I see any significant difference? The answer will very much depend on the display - i.e. projector or TV upscaling capability to upscale to 3840 x 2160p.
In conclusion, the difference is almost negligible if your display is already very good at upscaling 1080p to near 4K quality.
If your display support it…go to Video mode and select 36-bit/12. If not, 30-bit/10 is fine for 4K@60.
Thks for the in-depth analysis. I am out now drinking at the kopitiam… I played around with the settings in my xbox one x, n will update later with pictures to show. I managed to get the settings to show up jus like bro ronil on his series x…I got the 60hz checkbox to show up, but there is one setting that I must change from “auto” to “HDMI MANUAL”… Will take a picture later. Cheers…
The 2560x1440 has a difference as black bars cropping the overall picture… 2 horizontal black bar at the top n bottom crop the overall picture…as to what I have seen while playing with the settings…
Now that I’m using this Xbox series x much more frequently for gaming, YouTube, Netflix, appletv + , Disney + etc… it makes sense for me to swap out the stock power cord
Just got this from Futureshop UK, will pair this with the extra plixir statement cable I have, and it goes into the plixir Cube 4 source power conditioner
