*Official Thread* Anthem AVM 70 & 90 and MRX 540, 740 & 1140

New firmware which added Spotify Connect.

Spotify Connect offers better audio quality without audio compression . The sound quality is usually much better as it bypass the Bluetooth connectivity of your devices and utilize Wi-fi for more reliable connection.

With Spotify Connect in the Premium version, the stream comes directly from the internet to the audio system via WLAN at a bit rate of up to 320kbp/s. The smartphone or your tablet will serve as a remote control.

this is nice but we are still waiting for the auto fhase correction.

I just popped the question to Anthem Support group and the latter informed me that they are still working on it. Coming soon…

I suppose Tidal connect is still up in the clouds…
Does Zidoo do Tidal connect yet?

Will replacing the MRX-1140 with the AVM70 give me a significant improvement in sound quality?

my current system is:
Anthem mrx -1140 reciver
Svs ultra bookshelf
Svs ultra center
Svs ultra surround
Svs prime elevation
Svs sb16 subwoofer
Rotel rmb-1585 5ch power amp

No it would not, the benefit of the AVM would be the access of better amps and more power, and access to a balanced out. Analog direct as well of you wanted an analog path. However sound wise you should not hear a difference.

In addition you want better sound, you would need to invest in higher range of speakers… you’re better off putting your money there if you have an urge to spend…

Tidal connect was never marketed with this AVR or processor. It does not have an MQA DAC so highly unlikely it will ever have Tidal connect.

Really depends on the whole setup and where the weakest link is and how it align to your personal preferences. Good “SQ” to one may not be the same with another.

Do you feel a specific area where you perceive a lack of quality or it is more of “I wonder if things can improve” in general kinda way?

How you position your speakers, room treatment, seating position ie non-hardware related can play a very significant part in the whole experience. In such cases, no amount of upgrades can fix the issues (since it is not the root cause).

Based on the limited information, I would say NO, you will not get any significant difference by changing that ONE component in isolation.

I see. Did not know about the DAC capability - I just generally assume since Tidal has been referenced as the ‘gold standard’ in Hifi streaming.

I’m testing Tidal now since they have a $1 for 3 mths promo program.
Honestly I can’t hear any significant difference comparing it to Apple Music - though I do see that with Tidal the freq is 44.1kHz (CD std) while with Apple Music it is 48kHz (HDMI std)

I was hoping to have a “connect” functionality vs streaming over airplay.
I would seriously consider Spotify if only they push out the “lossless” format already

Expect more delay in Spotify HiFi streaming.

I do not feel that I am missing anything in truth and I am very satisfied with the sound quality.
It just really intrigues me to know what the differences are between the MRX-1140 and AVM / 70.
And will the processor sound better than the receiver.

Frankly, if you have extra budget to switch to AVM 70, go ahead and try for yourself. There is no right or wrong. Our guess is as good as yours. But if you ask me, I’ll say, don’t waste your money. Better SQ doesn’t mean you have to purchase more “expensive” gear. Instead we should focus on the fundamentals - i.e. placement of your speakers, inclusive of subwoofer(s), proper calibration, acoustic treatment etc that will make “more difference” (sum of all parts is greater than its whole and it may actually cost “less” than acquiring a new AVM 70). But like I say, it is your money, your setup, your choice at the end of the day.

In general moving from AVR to AVP affords you the possibility of mix and match to improve your experience.

Usually the assumption is that you get better sound as you “outsourced” and isolate the amplification duty from the processing.

Other differences you need to compare specs, are there any component “upgrades” vs the AVR. These are usually speculations unless you can get your hands on both to do A/B. That again is very subjective as if you paired a poor amplifier then is it the fault of the AVP?

There could also be video component upgrades, so it’s not always just SQ improvements.
In the end your guess is as good as mine unless you can do the A/B as I mentioned.

New firmware found…1.106.157.

This update will have a new version number for the DSP, MCU Flash and LCD modules.

Hopefully we won’t be waiting too long to get the auto phase subwoofer alignment.

how is the lyngdorf mp-60 compeard to the anthem processors?

Desray,

Quick clarification…
How do I EQ if I have more than 2 subs?
Do I now need an external EQ device btw the Anthem and the sub?

My present situation is I have 3 subs.
Putting 1 in front and 2 at the back.
Since I only have 2 discreet sub channels out of the AVM70, meaning 2 subs will share 1 of the channel. Any EQ on this 1 channel will affect both subs (and since they will have different response curve, it would not be ideal.

I know you also have 3 subs, how do you deal with this scenario?
TIA.
