JVC will be releasing a new FrameAdapt HDR firmware amongst other features before the end of Nov. Some of the beta testers claimed there are vast improvements to the laser dimming as well as the new HDR tone-mapping to rival Lumagen and perhaps even MadVR.
For JVC NZ series owners, this is something worth looking forward.
I was informed by a member from AVSForum that a new AutoCal s/w will also be released alongside the new firmware. It will be ver 3.0 when it is released to the public. The last firmware (ver 2.10) was released in Aug this year.
The new features will be coming from the new firmware. Instead of (low, med and high) for the Laser Dimming mode…the new firmware will come with 0 - 100 steps to provide that granular adjustment.
A beta tester for the new firmware (ver 3.00) seems to suggest that the only benefit from this new firmware is the improvement in brightness when engaged Auto-wide and that literally means it will tend to benefit those using NZ8 and NZ9 with color filter. Not so much for the NZ7 model which only has Auto-Normal.
Here’s a quote from the tester, Kris Deering in AVDForum.
Ultimately I would say the main benefit of the new firmware is it makes AUTO WIDE more usable as a set and forget function for those that like an image that is brighter overall (more compression) without as many artifacts. Especially those that may not have quite as much light to work with but still like a higher amount of compression.
In gist, don’t expect the new firmware to improve the DTM anywhere near the level of say Lumagen or MadVR. For more updates, you can follow the new thread created by Kris for more updates.
The LD setting provides more granularity now. Ranging from 0 (Low laser) to 46 (Mid laser) to 100 (High laser). Unfortunately, the fan started to kick in once you moved to 47.
