It does seem that the century studios look closer to Rec709 on the avatar girl. That looks pretty obvious compared to the HDR-X version . But in person, the hdr-x version looks a lot nicer, especially black levels, specular highlights and it had more depth

But that colour of the sea seems to have more “blue” to it . Looking at the actual video, I can observe that it’s less blue and has a bit more greenish tone. That is also noticeable on the “creature fly off scene”, slightly different shade of blue if I observe the sea

Yea and finally the boy resting on avatar’s belly scene, the face looks much more visible on the SDR version. (Sammy is correct). The hdr version seems a bit darker. I noticed this part changes as we open iris to 5. The shots taken with iris 5 on SDR vs Iris 3( darker on hdr)

Finally the last pic, seems brighter on the SDR version, I supposed the iris opened to 5 showing this clearly….

Finally got to understand some new things comparing the century version with sdr709 and also looking at DTM vs madvr vs lumagen vs OLED

What an interesting exercise

Yes, this is almost impossible to miss. I believe this is perfectly normal as HDR expanded the blue color gradient which resulted from the turquoise colors in the SDR version to more “blue-ish” ocean color in the HDR version.

Ya i think the glaring subtitles is a specific PITA problem for TVs than PJs due to the brightness of the display.

The overall brightness of the OLEDs are getting brighter YOY. Although my OLED panel can hit abt 710 nits max brightness, but it’s already super fatigue on subtitles. Worst for LEDs and miniLEDs that can has even higher peak brightness.

Let me revisit the subtitles color suggestion, thx for that!

Ya the white subtitles are a pain with HDR10, but with DV it is less of a problem. Some movies have their subtitles embedded, unlike the SRT subtitles… for that you have no option if the movie is in HDR10…

Hopefully they will have it in dolby vision , we have lotsa movies in DV nowadays

For avatar 2, they will have 3 different versions, IMAX, 3D and the normal Scope 2:39. I suspect they might have it in HDR10+ if it doesn’t come with DV

Must watch the IMAX version full 1.9:1, nice on the big screen

Hopefully they use the dtsX soundmix in the bluray… that will be awesome…

This is one helluva movie ! $2b

Its global total has now surpassed $2 billion, putting it sixth all-time and just ahead of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Domestically, “The Way of Water” is up to $598 million. Continued robust international sales ($56.3 million for the weekend) has helped push the “Avatar” sequel to $2.024 billion worldwide.

Finally watched this at Shaw PLQ non imax cinema!

The laser PJ colors at Shaw PLQ non imax is quite good. I didnt find the skin tones pale. The mid bass tactile could surprisingly be felt to a good extent. A surprise for me.

Love the beautiful PQ! 12/10! There are oso many worthy demo scenes too for audio, with the flying panning, forest and water scenes.

Definitely a must-get reference movie for PQ and audio! Cant wait to watch it again on my HT system to see the colors on my oled and the audio immersion effects.

Story plot is indeed predictable & so so compared to sequel 1. But man, it’s still Avatar no horse run! Action packed and a great PQ treat!

Nice ! Didn’t know PLQ’s non imax is using Laser PJ. Next time I’ll watch it in that cinema .

Meanwhile in our neighbouring country

Yes it’s an all-laser cineplex. GV paya lebar also an all-laser cineplex. I believe the laser PJ shld make a day and night difference in the PQ.

GV funan is half laser, which only the more premium halls are laser. (I emailed GV to check)

Hope this helps!

…they have the 4K release of the sequel but not the 4K Remaster of the 1st episode.
