Took some time to really test out the new Zidoo Z30 Pro 8K and I have to say that I am pretty happy with the purchase. The reason why I got the Z30 Pro and not the higher end model like UHD8000 is because I am already rocking an EverSolo DMP-A6 music streamer with a hi-fi quality DAC from the same company.

Unboxing

Here’s the unit itself

The accessories that comes with the box…

Instead of providing a “switchable” 3-pin power adaptor, Zidoo decides to provide a standalone adaptor with its very own fuse.

The 3-way antenna is needed for bluetooth connectivity, not just for Wi-Fi. Even if you have an ethernet cable connection, you will still need to fix the antenna for bluetooth connectivity to work. Bluetooth keyboard and mouse worked flawlessly. Trust me, you will need this for the Apple Music app as the app itself is essentially an mobile phone app which is the same as the one found in DMP-A6 music streamer. The only way to navigate with ease is to use a bluetooth mouse. Even though the stock remote controller comes with a “mouse” function, it is not user-friendly and there is no way to adjust the speed of the mouse movement which makes it pretty useless and annoying to use.

This is a Ultra speed HDMI certified cable that support 8K60

A new remote controller (V11) that only support Infra-red (IR) which I am pretty disappointed. The V12 model which has bluetooth is only meant for the higher end model or so I read. Fortunately, one can get the V12 from Zidoo online store. And yes, it is backlit! The buttons are tactile and the remote is comfortable to hold. I am ordering the V12 remote with the bluetooth function (worth S$55) from AliExpreess at the time of this post.

Meanwhile, the workaround is to use the Zidoo remote app which in my opinion is really good. Alternatively, one can also use the WebUI-remote which rides on the home Wi-Fi network for navigation. Many ways to control your device if you asked me.

New features/settings

First change is the GUI. The Z30 Pro follows the ZIUICancer.apk skin found in higher-end model. This user-interface (UI) is preferred when it comes to ease of
navigation imo.

One can now set the UI to 4K to get crispier image and wording. A pleasant surprise!

Along with the new powerful AmLogic S928X-K 64bit chipset is the introduction of the AI image processing meant for 1080p content. This is not applicable for 4K and 8K content. This make sense but I will not see myself using it. Anything that is AI processed is a hit or miss. Case in point, the Nvidia Shield TV.

Since this is marketed as a 8K media player, the addition of a 8K resolution under the Display setting allows the user to select various colorspace and its bitdepth.

Of course, for Apple Music user (like myself), rejoice! Now it is possible to send bitstream Dolby Atmos track for your AVR/Amp for processing. I am surprised that DMP-A6 music streamer with HDMI connection is not able to do that but a media player can. This is odd.

Some of the design concept from the EverSolo DMP series also make its way into the new media player as well. One such feature is the vu meter.

The native home theater app also gets a slight face-lift. A trailer window on the top right corner starts to autoplay the trailer (source from YouTube) when a selection is made. It will take about 10 - 12 secs for the backend algorithmn to kick in. Neat but unnecessary imo. While it is possible that more ram resources will be utilised to do this but the increase in the physical memory (RAM) certainly help with this. Another neat UI change is the ability to select the subtitle and audio track in advance even before you hit that [Play] button. This idea comes from the a typical full bluray rip with menu that allows the user to pre-select the audio and subtitle before the play. By hitting the “more” button, a comprehensive details of the movie itself is presented in mere seconds. Neat!

I will touch on more on my user experience when playback media content like 4K HDR and BD ISO/bluray in my next post. Overall, the latest models from Zidoo features a more responsive and faster navigation.

Does tidal connect works? Hope 2 get Dolby atmos music in tidal with player instead of having to use tv

I don’t have a Tidal account, hence I am unable to test it.

For those who prefer to upload your media content to the HDD in your Zidoo player, you can either opt to use the //smb (ip_address) method on your desktop PC or laptop or access the WebUI interface using the WebDav.

Here is the splash page of the WebUI.

The apps page.

The movie collection page.

Here’s a short clip showcasing the speed of loading a BD ISO file (file size 67GB). I’m using the AVDisco Sampler V2 (Special Edition) as my test sample here.

Was there a special edition? :joy:

Is order direct fm futeko reliable/trustable?

Yes. This is my first order with them. It delivered on time.

How do I get rid of this error msg? Thanks

Can you click on the App Info and do a force stop?

This is a bad move by you to install the G_firmware. For the new AmLogic chipset, it is irreversible as the player doesn’t allow you to access the Advance setting to disable or remove the google play services running in the background. Furthermore, these newer models use a different method of firmware updates. Zidoo no longer using the “whole package” but rather using incremental or what they coined as “differential” package.

Try reinstall the latest G_firmware and see if it helps. If I manage to find a solution, I will post here.
