*Official Thread* Anthem AVM 70 & 90 and MRX 540, 740 & 1140

I’ve been trying to get the wifi setup without any success. There’s very little in terms of documentation and there is no manual setup as far as I can see.

I’m able to connect if I ran a ethernet cable to it but that’s not the point.

I’ve both antennas installed, downloaded the ios app. But stuck here as the app could not detect the unit. There’s no manual setting for SSID and password that I can find :sob:.

This is a first :exploding_head:. Manual setup shud be a fail safe alternative.

Great recommendations for calibrating MRX/AVM series!

I have a MRX 1140 and am trying to figure out how best to connect a network streamer as I understand there’s no direct analog passthru with the MRX. If I were to use the blue sound node (as an example), would you recommend to connect via the analog audio-in or should I go optical or HDMI into MRX for 2 channel listening?

I’ve read that analog audio-in on the MRX 1140 gets converted to a digital signal at 24/96 for ARC processing in the 1140 before being converted back to analog signal for sending to the speakers so I’m not sure if this is the best route for highest fidelity or if sending a digital signal from streamer to MRX via another input is best?

Thanks for your advice!

Are u using Google Home app? You need to use that to connect wirelessly.

Krell. Nice
I am currently using the 1120 with all channels pre out to power amps using RCA cables. Am wondering if i should get new XLRs/ Convert my RCAs to XLRs or remains in RCA config.
I have 2 months to decide on that.
My subs have no XLR input too, so that will remain as RCA.

For movies, just use the non balanced RCA will do your just fine.

No. I as trying using the app from Apple store.
I’ve an Android phone too and tried the Android app as well…

If I installed Google Home, what are the steps?

Because Anthem utilizes Chromecast as the backbone for streaming and casting, the recommended steps to connect wirelessly is through Google Home. Install Google Home and the click add devices and follow through the steps. After it successfully identified the Anthem, you will be able to see the assigned IP address and you will be able to access the Web UI from there on.

have to say I had an absolute nightmare running ARC genesis as it took me over 20 -30 plus tries to complete the 5 positions as the test noise constantly kept stopping and ARC genesis would report an error. And it would stop at random speakers as well so I never knew what the problem was.

I doubted my speaker wires time and again and kept checking and re-checking the connections until I finally realised it was all the program itself. Sometimes even quick measure didn’t work…

had to turn off all the fans and aircon during calibration and close all the windows so it was stifling hot in the room which just added to the frustration.

but after one week finally managed to run the full 5 positions and applied the settings. Would like to run it once more without the power amp as some of the levels looked way off but I think will need to pray for patience before attempting again.

Hi Kith, sorry to hear about your frustrating journey to get ARC working. The ARC issue you’ve described does indeed happen intermittently arising from too many tries and the SoC on MRX/AVM will generate a lot of heat as byproduct. The situation only worsen when you close the door and windows because the heat cannot properly dissipate. The only solution is to ensure there is plenty of ventilation for the MRX/AVM by placing it on top of the rack will help to reduce such instances.

It is not the Arc software issue but rather the MRX/AVM imo. By the way, you are using MRX1140 or AVM 70?

Bro thanks for letting me know this! Am using mrx 1140.

Currently have the anthem placed in an AV Rack with fans extracting the hot air but I’ll search for an ac infinity to place on top of it as well. Hopefully more cooling will be beneficial.

Will try letting the receiver cool down first next time when encountering such errors again. May have acted a bit hotheaded earlier when I just couldn’t figure out the problem.

Other than that no other issues other than my PS5 refusing to enable HDR at 4K which the Apple TV and Shield TV do without any issue. Am even using the cable supplied by them so not sure what’s wrong.

It does enable HDR at 1080p though.

Will try all of bro Desray advice above on running ARC hopefully will be easier this time. Only troublesome thing is that can’t move the sub (my system in the hall) so might need one more slim or discreet sub to place somewhere near the couch.

Anyone can advice will it be bad to combine Svs sb1000 and something like the GALLO slim sub?

Thanks in advance.

The SVS Sb1000 is a sealed subwoofer, preferably you will want to go for the same type and same brand if possible. Mix and match subwoofers of different brands will make your calibration so much harder. Why spend the time to fiddle and getting it right when calibration is already so time consuming. One less problem to deal with, the better, don’t you agree?

I’ve got a used ac infinity to let go. If you are interested

I’ll pm you bro.

Sigh… got to figure out a way to find space for it

At most, put the Anthem AVM 70 on top of the TV cabinet lor.

Have some question here:

What is “AnthemLogic-Cinema” in “Current Audio Mode”?

AnthemLogic is Anthem’s proprietary DSP mode which is akin to Yamaha’s DSP modes. There are only 2 and quite frankly, you only need 2 - one for movie (AnthemLogic-Cinema) and the other for music (AnthemLogic-Music). The current Audio Mode will be the “default” selection when you power up your Anthem AVM 70. For 2 channel listening, I will advise to select a different Input and set this to “None” which will trigger based on the source content - e.g. if playback a CD or songs with 2 channels, it will default to Stereo mode. The difference between AnthemLogic-Music and Stereo more similar then different which is a good thing as it goes to show Anthem did not add too much artificial processing which would otherwise color the sound. Try both and decide which one suits you better.

On a sidenote, if you are watching movie with Dolby Atmos, pls default it to Dolby Surround mode. For some reason, some user has have experienced no Dolby Atmos soundmix if you select “None” as default.

Hi Raymond…quick question on the MRX1140. Does it have the option to “turn off” selected internal amps (say for the front three channels) if one plans to use external amps to power the 3 fronts? Thanks.

as far as i know there is no pre-out mode in the mrx-1140.
only denon in the upper levels have this option.
